William Bethule "Bill" Peck

William Bethule "Bill" Peck, 90, of Grand Island, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, William served in the US Army during World War II. William graduated from Stetson University in 1951 and began his coaching career at Leesburg High School, Leesburg, FL. He coached at many schools including, Columbia University, Ridgefield Park High School, Ridgefield Park, NJ, Paramus High School, Paramus, NJ, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL, Middle Tennessee State where he had the 1st African American Quarterback and won the Churchman Hall of Fame Coach of the Year and Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year. He later coached at Wittell High School, Zephyr Cove, NV and South Lake Tahoe High School, California. He moved to Grand Island in 1987. Locally he coached at Eustis, Mount Dora, Leesburg, Tavares, Umatilla and returned to Mount Dora High School before retiring from coaching in 2010 at the age of 83. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Eustis. William is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathy Peck, Grand Island, FL; 2 sons, William D. Peck, Mount Dora, FL, Chris R. Peck; brother, Dr. Robert R. Peck, Pownal, VT; granddaughter, Kristen Liddle and 2 great-grandchildren, Thomas Owen Mysinger, Brianna Skye Mysinger. Services will be private for family only with a public memorial to be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to a local high school athletic program.
