Rev. Warren Frederick Whitmore, age 90, passed away on July 3, 2021, at his home in Eustis, FL. Warren was born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 18, 1930, to Hugh Allen and Marie Floro Whitmore. He grew up in Evansville, Indiana with his brothers—Lloyd, Clarence, and Willard, and his sisters—Eloise and Alene. After graduating from Central High School, Evansville, IN, in 1950, he entered the United States Air Force and served for four years. He was stationed in Japan as an Airman with the 528th Aircraft Control and Warning Group, 35th Fighter Interceptor Wing, 314th Air Division, 5th Air Force. On December 23, 1954, he married Shirley Ann Tompkins of Evansville, IN. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tennessee in May 1958. Warren was ordained as a minister at Grace Baptist Church in Evansville, IN. He graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in May 1961 with a Masters in Theology. From 1958 to June 2007 he served as pastor to 11 churches throughout Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana. Warren also worked for the Lake County School System as a Social Studies Teacher and Guidance Counselor from 1968 to 1988. Warren was a member of First Baptist Church of Tavares since 1998 where he has served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, President of the Corporation, member of the Missions Committee, and Personnel Committee. He also served as Chaplain to area hospitals, provided services in nursing homes, conducted a jail ministry, and went on mission trips to Montana and the Amazon. Warren is survived by his wife Shirley and 2 children: Son Steven (Pamela) Whitmore of Kissimmee, Daughter Deborah (Edgar) Hicks of Eufaula, Alabama, one grandchild Stefanie (Tim) Majoras of Orlando; Edgar’s daughter, Heather Hicks, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, July 9th at First Baptist Church of Tavares. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. with the Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M.
