Virginia Bardeen Bartlett, 101, and a long-time resident of Eustis, FL area entered her eternal rest on Friday, June 3, 2016 at her country home in Leesburg, FL. Born February 11, 1915, to Ray and Lenna Bardeen in Hornell, NY, Virginia received her Bachelor’s degree in 1935 from Alfred University majoring in Latin and French, her Masters from Stetson, and her Specialists from the University of Florida. She taught school for 42 years, teaching in Lake County, Florida as an elementary school teacher and then as a Title 1 reading teacher. Virginia was passionate about education and persisted until all her children graduated from college. She believed that everyone could learn to read, and has touched the lives of countless individuals through her giftedness and persistence over the years. Virginia was active for many years in the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora teaching Sunday school and Bible studies. She enjoyed traveling the world, playing Euchre with her family, and raising citrus and cattle. She preferred being outside working the fields or just sitting in the barn rather than being in her house. She loved all animals and had a special place in her heart for baby calves, usually giving each one a special name. Virginia is survived by three children, James (Marcia) Bartlett of Grand Island, FL; Howard (Gloria) Bartlett of Cartersville, GA; and Jane Bartlett of Eustis, FL; four grandchildren; James (Lisa) Bartlett, Katey (Kevin) Burger, Philip Bartlett, Melissa (Patrick) Bostic; one sister who is also a centenarian, Mary Wilson of Canaseraga, NY; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three brothers. She will be remembered by the many, many students and friends whose lives she touched over the years. May she rest in peace. We will miss you, Virginia Bartlett. Visitation and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at her residence in the equipment barn on Hwy 452, Leesburg FL, with The Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Biery officiating. If there is inclement weather, services will be moved to the Chapel at Harden/Pauli Funeral Home, Eustis. Burial will be at a later date in Hornell, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora 222 W. 6th Ave., Mount Dora, FL 32757. Harden/Pauli Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
