Verlyn George "Vern" Eveland, 87, of Eustis, passed away peacefully at home in Cassia on Thursday, October 20, 2016. Born in Shell Rock, Iowa, on November 10, 1928, Vern served his country in the Marine Corps. In 1953 he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Orlando, and in 1965 they moved their family to Cassia. Vern was in the gas station business, first in Orlando as Eveland Oil Company, and later in Madisonville, KY, as Rocket Oil Company. Vern served as Board Chairman for Sumter Electric Co-op and as the first President of Seminole Electric Co-op. He was also served in leadership capacities at Cassia Community Club and Lake-Sumter State College Foundation, and was a Kentucky Colonel. Vern was passionate about business, boating and working in his shop. He is survived by his 6 children, Barry (Gail) Eveland, Hanson, KY, Tony (Dana) Eveland, Apopka, FL, Kelley (Mark) McManaman, Atlanta, GA, Scott (Rita) Eveland, Nashville, TN, Ted (Carole) Eveland, Eustis, FL, and Sam (Meg) Eveland, Saint Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara, in 1999. The family will receive friends at the Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel in Eustis on Tuesday, October 25, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, at Harden/Pauli followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando. Charitable donations to the ALS Association (
