Thurlon Errol Neville (Captain Neville), 90, of Eustis, passed away on May 17th, 2022. Born and raised in Enfield, North Carolina, Errol joined the Navy after graduating from Rocky Mount High School. He served in Guam on Weather Squadron 1, flying Typhoon reconnaissance during the Korean War. Upon successful completion of his military service, he moved from Port Arthur Texas along with his wife and new baby girl, Lil Anne to Orlando, Florida.
In 1959, his second daughter, Elaine, was born. He fell in love with the Butler Chain of Lakes area and built a home on 2 acres in what is now Buena Vista. Errol earned a degree from Orlando Junior College (now UCF) and was hired by Martin Marietta as an engineer on their Rocket program. He loved flying and purchased a Piper PA17 that he kept on the Bronson’s grass strip across from the house. Around 1967, he was hired as a pilot by Eastern Airlines. He had an exceptional reputation for his piloting skills and absolutely loved flying commercial airliners.
Errol also loved the state of Florida and owned Orange Groves in Babson Park as well as many other properties throughout his life. He enjoyed being active and was very athletic; he was still Kickboxing at the age of 70 and enjoyed flying, scuba diving, and investing in real estate. After retiring from Eastern Airlines where he spent most of his career based out of Miami, he would fly for pleasure and in his later years, Errol and his friend Dallas would often fly all over Florida in Dallas’s plane, eating hamburgers from one end of the state to the other.
Toward the end of his life, he attended a small church in the Sorrento area and looked forward to the service and fellowship every week. Errol is predeceased by his daughter, Lil Anne Jolliff and by his brother, Billy Neville. He is survived by his daughter, Elaine (Malcolm) Sharpe of Eustis, FL; son-in-law, John Jolliff of Eustis, FL; brother, Walter Henry Neville of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Michael Jolliff, Robert (Katie) Jolliff, Cory Hannahan, Rachel (Daniel) Risler, Michelle Sharpe, and Hannah (Seth) Spencer; great-grandchild, Autumn Joy Risler; and numerous extended family and friends. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis on May 23 at 9 AM.
