Steven R. Russell, 66, of Umatilla, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016. Born in Key West, Florida, he moved to Umatilla in 1986. He retired with 32 years of service at "Ma Bell" and worked part-time at Florida Living Retirement Community. He was a member of the Umatilla Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served his God in a variety of roles including assisting and establishing services at the Hilltop Community Center. Steven was a disabled veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Army 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry, Delta Company during Vietnam. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rebecca Parks Russell of Umatilla, FL; mother, Mary Louise Russell of Key West, FL; son, Matthew Parra of Australia; daughter, Melanie Serafine of Longwood, FL; brother, Warren Y. Russell, Jr. of Marathon, FL; 4 grandchildren, Johnny Christopher Helms, Adam Russell Helms, Max Cohen Parra, and Benjamin Ryan Parra. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Young Russell. Services will be held at the Umatilla Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Ponceannah Cemetery, Paisley, FL.
