Sandra Kay Swartz

September 3, 1942 — December 23, 2019

Sandra Kay “Cookie” Swartz, 77, of Waxahachie, TX, passed away unexpectedly following a massive stroke on Monday, December 23, 2019 while ‘snowbirding’ in Eustis FL. Cookie was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to her late parents, Homer D. and Edith M. McMurray. After living in six states during her adult life, she moved to Waxahachie in 2017 from Tobaccoville, NC. She was a Hairdresser by trade, a Foster Parent and a Nanny by passion and active with King Baptist Church, King, NC and most recently, Farley Street Baptist Church, Waxahachie, TX. Cookie was involved in a haircutting ministry at her church, she volunteered at the hospital and you could bet she would hand you a little silicone frog if you needed to be reminded to Fully Rely On God (FROG). Cookie loved big, never met a stranger and you became part of her family when she met you. Whether she was baking cookies or breads for others, crocheting hats and blankets for family, friends, and the patients at the area hospitals, or reaching out to see how she could help you, her love and kindness for others shined above all else. Cookie was a person of faith and lived life serving others. She loved spending time with her circle of people and she always made you her priority. She is loved deeply and will be truly missed by all those who knew her! Through our sadness, we rejoice with her as we know she arrived in time for Christmas in heaven!
Cookie was lucky number 13 of 14 biological children so inevitably family, biological and chosen, meant absolutely everything to her. Cookie is survived by her loving husband of almost 57 years, Clifford C. “Chuck” Swartz, Waxahachie, TX; her son, Charles "Chip" Swartz, Medina, OH, and her daughter and bonus son, Stacy Elliott (Jeff); 2 brothers and bonus sisters, Joseph McMurray (Barbara), Boardman, OH, Dean McMurray (Elaine), Naples, FL; her sister, Patricia Spencer, Roswell, GA and her bonus sister, Ellen McMurray; her 4 grandchildren and bonus grandson Elizabeth “Beth” Young (Matt), Kayla Gardi, Riley Swartz and Lauren Swartz; and her 3 great-grandchildren, Ryan Young, Charlie Young and Allie Young. Cookie adored her chosen family as well and will be deeply missed by her chosen son and bonus daughter William "Bill" Walker (Wendy), Eustis, FL; and chosen daughter Nina Nasution, Jakarta, Indonesia; and her chosen and bonus grandchildren, Kelsey Walker, Kyle Walker (Maddie) and Anki “Kiki” Fahraj Abas, along with countless others she took under her wing.
A Celebration of Cookie’s Life will be held on March 7, 2020, in the Dallas TX area. Details of the celebration will be shared at a later date. For memorial contributions, the family has designated Farley Street Baptist Church, 1116 Brown Street, Waxahachie TX 75165.
