Ruth Elizabeth Ryan

August 2, 1934 — August 20, 2024

Montverde, Florida

Ruth Elizabeth nee Baker Ryan went home to be with the Lord and her husband of 50 years, Thomas R. Ryan, USN retired. Born in Wharton, New Jersey on August 2, 1934, daughter to the late Waldo W. Baker and Leona Lewis Baker. Ruth served the US Navy during the Korean War and was assigned to the chaplain’s office in Norfolk, Virginia Naval base. Ruth was a cheerleader for the Norfolk Naval Tars football team while serving in the Navy. With her husband’s 23-year navy career, they lived in Charleston, North Charleston, South Carolina, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brooklyn, New York, and Naples, Italy. When they returned to the United States for Tom’s retirement from the Navy, they lived in Pine Hills and then Montverde, Florida. Ruth retired from the US Postal Service in 1991 with 30 years combined federal service, including US Postal Service, US Navy, US Army, and US Air Force. She was a member of the American Legion Post 55 of Clermont, Florida and Fleet reserve association. Ruth volunteered for years at Health Central Hospital outpatient lab. Tom and Ruth moved to Montverde in 1971 and fought hard to keep it a quiet safe country town that they loved from day one. Survivors are lifetime friends, Navy retired families and favorite slot machines. Ruth was a diehard Yankee fan starting in the days of Joe DiMaggio right onto Derek Jeter. Private burial will be at Montverde cemetery joining her late husband and her mother. No flowers please. Donate to the Montverde cemetery fund or your favorite charity.
