Ruby Genevieve Williams was born in Sedalia, Missouri, on December 30, 1912, the second of eight children born to William and Ida (Ikenberry) Williams. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. While in high school, she met Walter (Red) Cannon. They married in 1934 in Independence, Missouri. Their first daughter, Carol Elizabeth was born in 1935, followed by Patricia Lee in 1938, and Janice Kaye in 1943. Genevieve stayed home with the girls, and delighted in sewing matching outfits for them, often taking advantage of “feed sack prints” available at the time. In 1950 Red opened his own auto upholstery business, (Cannon’s Auto Toggery). Genevieve utilized her sewing talent and joined him in the family business. In addition to working at the shop, Genevieve was an active member of the Waldo Avenue Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the choir, but her great love was the children’s ministry, she spent many hours preparing for and teaching Sunday School classes. In 1973, Red and Genevieve closed their shop and moved to Oviedo, Florida, where they were owner/operators of a Western Auto Store for several years. Genevieve became an active member of First Baptist Church of Oviedo, again helping in the children’s ministry. Red died in 1989 and Genevieve continued to live in the family home until her death. She loved to write poetry and used that talent to share her deep Christian faith. Survivors include; daughter, Carol (John) Barber of Collierville, daughter, Patricia (Don) Chadwick, of Independence, and daughter, Janice Fullington of Oviedo, FL. Other survivors include grandchildren; Kelley (John) Reetzek, Kyle (Teresa) Chadwick, Rebecca (John) Genge; Great grandchildren, Joseph Lee Chadwick, Melanie Nicole Chadwick, Ian Donald Genge, and Stella Genevieve Genge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
