Ross Henderson Walters, 91, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. Born in Colquitt, Georgia, he moved to Lake County, Florida, in 1952 from Miller County, Georgia. Ross served in the United States Army during Korea. After being released from the service, he worked in several different occupations before continuing his education and becoming employed with Florida Power Corporation (now Duke Energy) in 1959. He worked in Haines City, Winter Garden, and then transferred to Eustis, where he resided on Starbird Street for 54 years. He was a member of the Jaycees in the 1960s. He was an active member of the Orange Avenue Church of Christ and served as an elder for more than 35 years. He was known for his gentle spirit and compassion. He loved nothing better than sharing the gospel, leading Bible studies, and caring for his church family. He was also active in the Booster Club and served several years in the early 80s as PTA president at Mount Dora Christian Home and Bible School (now Mount Dora Christian Academy). He was the patriarch of his family, caring and mentoring his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He loved nothing more than spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was quite a high school football fan and loved to watch basketball games at Mount Dora Bible School. Ross is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann K. Walters; brothers, Hoyt Walters, Clayton Walters, Joseph Walters, Raymond Walters, and Jule Walters; and sisters, Margie Hurt and Lennie Humphrey. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Walters, of Leesburg; daughters, Debra Plyler (Ivan), of Pleasant Grove, AL, Terry Lashley (Gary) of Mount Dora, FL, and Sheila Wilson (Dale), of Eustis, FL; 7 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends. Services will be held at Orange Avenue Church of Christ, 1511 E. Orange Ave., Eustis, FL, on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis.
