Rondey Lewis Morefield passed away peacefully at his home in Eustis, Florida on August 30th , 2023. Retired Msgt Morefield served in the United States Army for 20 years; serving 2 tours to Vietnam War, 1 term in Germany and another later oversees in The Netherlands with NATO. He was awarded the respected Purple Heart, Bronze Star and 11 medals for service. A resident in the Golden Triangle area for over 40 years, his family moved to Central Florida after a short stay in Dunedin, Fl. Arriving here, he opened the first Allstate agency in the county at Lake Square Mall. He later moved to a private office in Mt Dora where he served the community for 20years and then retired a second time. His last 20 years were spent in what he often referred to as “the Lords Army”. His church family was a high priority after his own personal family and friends. “Poppy” as he was best known by his five grandchildren loved him like no other. All of those that knew this godly, kind, humorous servant can attest to some kind of gesture where he almost always left his mark; a loaf of bread or bushel of apples/tomatoes to widows, a handwritten letter, card or note to many, extra gas money or tips under the table to those he didn’t know but knew had a need, or as a community connector who delegated jobs and needs of others to those more able to meet them, when he couldn’t. Ron and Jackie were members of LifePointe Church (1st Baptist Eustis) for over 40 years where Ron served as a Deacon and ministry leader for most of those years. His life verse was Phil 1:3,6 – “Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God…and I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” Jesus and Dad are now united, face to face although they walked hand in hand for a long time. Ron’s family has peace knowing he is fully healed and that they will see him again one day. Ron is survived by his loving wife of almost 52 years, Jacquelyn Thomas Morefield, his two daughters: Wendy Lyn Phillips (Glenn Phillips) of Mount Dora, Fl and Nathalie Bates (Tommy Bates) of Winter Park, Fl, his brother, Fred Morefield of South Carolina and brother in law, Charles Thomas of Virginia, his five grandchildren: Mackenzie Phillips, Kendall Phillips, Campbell Bates, Tommy Bates III, & Beau Bates. Additionally, there are many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that were as close as family. His only sister, Nancy Benefield predeceased him. Ron was born October 14th 1940 in Pulaski, Virginia and went to his heavenly home on August 30th 2023. All are welcome to attend the funeral service at LifePointe Church, 3531 Orange Avenue in Eustis on Wednesday September 6th at 10am with a viewing at 9am. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to LifePointe Church in his honor.
