Robert B. Smithes

Robert B. Smithes, 95, of Eustis, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Born in Milo Township, IL, he moved to Eustis in 1979 from Herndon, VA. He was an airport engineer prior to his retirement. Mr. Smithes was a USMC Veteran serving in the South Pacific during WWII. This is when he met PFC Jeanne Franks and they were married in 1945. Mr. Smithes was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Mount Dora, FL and the VFW Post 14000. He is survived by Daughters Suzanne Keplinger of Fairfax, VA, Donna O' Rourke of Seffner, FL, Cyndy Dorn of Barboursville, VA, and Connie Thorn of Charles Town, WV; Sister, Betty Hartman of Colorado; 8 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Mount Dora on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
