Richard Stephen Johns, 76, of Sorrento, FL passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Born in Raiford, Florida, he graduated from Paxon Highschool in Jacksonville, FL. After spending two years in the US Navy, he returned to Jacksonville, where he worked for 30 years for Jacksonville Electric Authority, where he worked his way from entry level electrician to Assistant Division Chief of Northside Generating Station. The last two years before retiring, he pioneered development of Project Management programs for the JEA’s Plant Maintenance. After Retirement He spend two years as a full time volunteer with Christian Light Foundation (a small Baptist foreign missionary organization) getting their home office computerized and training staff to use the programs. Richard was an active member of First Baptist Church Jacksonville for 18 years, then moved to Westminster PCA, where he became an Elder. In 2002 Richard moved to Sorrento FL. He joined St. Andrews Chapel of Sanford, FL where he served as an Elder. He worked at Leesburg Home Depot in Millworks for about three years. He was an avid amateur photographer and “do-it-yourselfer” with many skills.
He is survived by Wife, Martha W. S. Johns, Sorrento, FL; Son, R. Stephen (Kathy) Johns, Apopka, FL; Daughter, Leila Johns (Larry) Wertman, Jacksonville, FL; Brother, Gary Johns, Jacksonville, FL; Sisters, Patricia Bennett, Sandra (Denis) Cribb and Linda Kirkpatrick all of Jacksonville, FL; Grandchildren, Christian (Carissa)Vallejo, Jason Vallejo, William Johns, Chad (Heather) Vallejo, Patrick Johns, Brittany Barnes, Brianna Barnes, Brandon Barnes, Jessica (William) Posten, Michael Steel, Mathew (Jordan) Steel, Jacob Wertman; and Great-Grandchildren Nikol Vallejo, Manuel Vallejo, Aiden Vallejo, Trey Posten, Taylor Posten, Chloe Posten and Madison Posten. Services will be held at St. Andrews Chapel, Sanford on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Orlando Memorial Gardens, Apopka. The family will receive friends at the Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel, Eustis on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM.
