Nicolas Tijerina

Nicolas Tijerina, 79, of Sorrento, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017. Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, he moved to Sorrento in 1970 from Orlando, FL. He is predeceased by his mother Isabel Madrid Tijerina and older brother Savino Tijerina (Both Greatly Loved). He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Hazel Tijerina, Sorrento, FL; 3 sons, Mark Tijerina, Sorrento, FL, Allen Cooper, Mount Dora, FL, Richard Cooper, Lisbon, FL; daughter, Teresa Wills (husband Paul), Sorrento, FL. Nick's Father was from Victoria, Mexico. His beloved Mother was born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Also survived by his brother, Eloy Madrid (wife, Dorothy), Las Vegas, NM; sister, Marie Arlita Madrid Maes(Carl), Las Vegas, NM; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great- grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins the Silvas. Nick attended South Public School, West Las Vegas High School. He was a member of the marching band, was in the Spanish, Chess, and Science clubs. He graduated W.L.V High School in 1958. He went to Highlands University where he received his Associates of Art Degree in 1960. At that time he joined the Air Force and served overseas in Triply, Libya and North Africa. He also was based out of Texas, Alabama and New Mexico. He was honorably discharged in 1964. He started his working career in Virginia as an Electrician Helper, became a Journeyman Electrician and Electrical Contractor, also worked as an Electro Mechanic at Patron. He married his lovely wife in 1972. He and his family moved to Florida worked as an Electrical Tech for General Electric Co. on production machinery. He went to work at Oak Ridge Tennessee at the Department of Energy Nuclear for Union Carbide. In 1979 returned to Florida and worked at ABB Electric, as an Wiring and Assemblyman and various other duties for 23 years until retirement. Nick was always faithful to his family and Catholic faith, attending both Catholic and Protestant services with his family. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
