Margaret Ann Swann Smith, 94, of Mount Dora, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022. Born in Roanoke, Alabama to the late James Barton and Grace Rotton Swann, she graduated from Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, AL and was a proud supporter of the Jones International House at JSU. She lived many places including Atlanta, GA, Plantation, FL, Blytheville, AR, Olney, IL, Suches, GA and Waleska, GA prior to moving to Waterman Village in Mount Dora in 2013. She worked most of her life as a French teacher and was a lifelong member of P.E.O.—Philanthropic Educational Organization, which provides educational opportunities for women worldwide. Margaret was vibrant and active and loved to dance, travel, and socialize. She was a remarkable communicator and spoke several languages, with French being her favorite. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Harry V. Smith, Jr. in 2010. She is survived by her children, Peggy (Jeff) Smith-Herbst, Mount Dora, FL, Harry V. "Butch" (Karen) Smith, III, Mount Pleasant, SC, Betty Grace (David) Peterson, Spokane, WA, and James M. (Sherri) Smith, Midlothian, VA, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Margaret had many treasured friends, including loving companion, Walter Hutwelker of Mount Dora. A memorial service will be held at the Garden of Life Chapel at Waterman Village, Mount Dora on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 10:30 AM.
