LADY LAKE - Lynda P. Tullar, from Olean, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday (September 11, 2016) at the Springs of Lady Lake, in Lady Lake, FL.
Lynda was born on November 21, 1938, in Olean, NY. She was the first daughter of Lynn B. and Pearl A. Tullar.
Lynda grew up developing a passion for cats and horses from the time she could walk spending endless hours horseback riding across meadows of her hometown and in Rushford, NY where her grandfather had a bicycle repair shop. She loved visiting her grandfather Carl Gordon.
She attended the Olean High School where she had a talent for singing and dancing. She participated in musicals and was very popular. After graduating she worked at a local bank making many lifelong friends.
Lynda moved to Gainesville, FL around 1959 and got a job at the J. Hillis Miller Health Center (University of Florida Health Science Center). It wasn't long before she met Hitup "Skip" Maddox of Wildwood, FL, a huge Gator fan and future graduate of the University of Florida. They married on September 3, 1960 at the First Methodist Church in Wildwood, FL. At the end of 1962 she had a daughter named Sabrina.
Lynda was recuperating at her mother-in-law's house in Wildwood after a serious automobile accident when she became a born again Christian and her entire life changed. In 1964 she had her son Chase.
When she wasn't traveling with and directing the Christian musical group "Up With People" she was teaching her own kids to appreciate all kinds of music and classic musicals. Passing along that passion subsequently insured that Lynda always had enthusiastic pint sized dance partners in their living room spending many happy hours singing and dancing.
Lynda adored airplanes, flying, chasing hurricanes and teaching her daughter to love all kinds of bugs, reptiles and wildlife insuring that her real "fear" of spiders was not handed down to her. Her love of politics was passed on to her son and they spent many hours discussing candidates during election cycles.
She held a position as City Clerk for the city of Wildwood working in housing and urban development, spending her free time participating in local church activities and traveling extensively to revivals around the state. She was an employee in the security department of Kmart for many years. Other jobs included the Ocala Community College, FSU in Tallahassee, a phone operator for the Hilton Hotel.
Later in life she became an ordained minister with the A.M.E. Church dividing her time between FL and NY using the beautiful singing voice God gave her to bless others. She loved the mountains around her home in NY and loved it when it snowed.
Surviving are two children, Sabrina (Maddox) Karim of Fruitland Park, FL and Chase Maddox of Leesburg, FL; one brother, Brent (Fay) Tullar of Farmington, Minn.; one aunt, Eleanor Mort of Windermere, FL, nieces, a nephew and several cousins.
Join us in celebrating the life of Lynda P. Tullar with a memorial service from 11 a.m. with a reception to follow on Saturday (October 1, 2016) at the Harden Pauli Funeral Home, 1617 S Bay Street, Eustis, FL.
