Laura Eilene Briggs, 73, of Tavares, Fl., passed away at home on Sunday, March 19, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Laura's final days were spent surrounded by family whose lives she had touched in so many special ways throughout her memorable life. She was happiest when spending time with her family, and will always be remembered as a loving wife, sister, mother, mimmie, aunt, and cousin. Laura is survived by her husband, Douglas Briggs; their five children, Douglas Briggs, Jr. (Michelle), Michael Briggs, Rebecca Cance, Troy Briggs, and Cora-Jane (CJ) Briggs; her grandchildren, Amber Cance, John Cance, Sierra Briggs, Dawson Briggs, Maxwell Briggs, Lillian Cance, Isabella Briggs, and Tabatha Briggs; her siblings, Edward James Ritchey, Anna Eckman (Donald), and Roy Ritchey (Bonnie); brother-in-law, Dwight Briggs (Ana); and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Jane Ritchey, and sister, Evelyn Mae Ritchey. Laura was born in Twin Rocks, Pa., and during her life she enjoyed living in many places across the country before calling Tavares, Fl. her home in 2006. She had a loving heart and took great pride in her work as an LPN and a Certified Surgical Technician. She was also licensed as a Real Estate Agent in three states. She excelled in many arts and crafts throughout her lifetime, including knitting, crocheting, and making both cabbage patch and porcelain dolls and loved to share what she learned with others. Most recently, she spent her time quilting and enjoyed her weekly Quilter's Guild meeting. She wanted everyone to know that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and loved it when people made a joyful noise unto the Lord by singing traditional hymns. The Old Rugged Cross, Put Your Hand in the Hand, and Amazing Grace were just a few that she loved to sing. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
