Karl Ray Shirey

Karl Ray Shirey, 68, of Mount Dora, FL passed away at his home on September 29th, 2020. He was born on January 12, 1952 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Beatrice and Raymond Shirey.
Karl retired from the Navy after serving his country as a Sailor First Class, earning: Good Conduct Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. During retirement, Karl continued his service to others through his business, Karl’s Maintenance. During the past several years, he supported elderly people by taking care of them as well as bringing them groceries, taking them to appointments and of course fixing things. Karl loved deep sea fishing when he had the opportunity.
Karl is survived by his son Darryl Shirey of Piqua, OH, daughters Katrina (Scott) Krites of Troy, OH and Candace Kummar of Mondovi, WI. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alexander Shirey, Elizabeth Shirey, Mathew Bagwell, Brylee Yohey, Xavier Yohey, Kayde Markham, Brandon Markham, and Jourdyn Markham. His siblings Karen (Jim) Cook, Marie (Erron) Barks, Kevin (Val) Shirey and Theresa (Greg) Hanes, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private memorial in Lansing, Michigan at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, where Karl will be interned. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
