Johnny Barto Smith , 78, of Eustis, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018. Born in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Barto and Thelma Smith, he moved to Eustis with his parents in the late 1940's. He graduated from Eustis High School in 1957 and from North Carolina State University in 1962. He owned and operated Lake Mechanical Contractors of Eustis, formerly Lake Plumbing, a company his parents founded in 1954. Under Johnny's leadership, Lake Mechanical completed projects with Walt Disney World such as Blizzard Beach, Animal Kingdom and the Dolphin Resort, as well as the University of Central Florida Bright House Networks Stadium and the 34-story expansion of the Peabody on International Drive. He served as the National President of the Association of Builders and Contractors in 1991. Johnny was the last living charter member of Bay Street Baptist Church, Eustis, where he served many years as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He is survived by his son, Barto Smith, Jr, AKA Tzimon Barto of Eustis, FL; cousins, Delores Block, Glenn Matthews, William Matthews, Cecilia Matthews. A private interment for Johnny was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis where he was buried with his parents and wife of 57 years, Evelyn Hall Smith. A public memorial service will be held at Bay Street Baptist Church, Eustis on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 6:30 PM. Online Guestbook available at
