John A. Verba, 91, of Zellwood, FL passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, “Allie" as he was called as a boy, grew up in a dairy farming family during the difficult times of the Great Depression. He served in the U.S. Navy towards the end of WWII. After meeting the love of his life, Theresa Wojciechowski, and continuing in the dairy farming business for a number of years in Stormville, New York they eventually settled in her hometown of New Milford, Connecticut. John owned and operated a lawn mower sales and service business in New Milford and became affectionately known as “Big John” – a big man with a big heart who cared for his customers and friends. John was a charmer whose favorite song “You Are My Sunshine” and his compassion made you feel like you indeed were. They later retired to Zellwood Station in 1985 from New Milford. John is survived by his wife of 71 years Theresa M. Verba, Zellwood, FL; 4 daughters, Alice (William) Bowen, Attica, NY, Carol (David) Hapanowich, Orlando, FL, Nancy (Carlos) Gamazo, Maitland, FL, Susan (Ron) V. Sloan, Mount Dora, FL, along with 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by a grandson, Christopher Alan Sloan and great-grandson, John Autry Pope. A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis, FL on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 1:00 PM and following that at 2:30 PM a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Sullivan Ranch Clubhouse 30450 Bretton Loop Mt.
