John J. Maruniak, Sr., 90, of Eustis, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Born in Chestnut Ridge, Pennsylvania, he moved to Eustis in 1969 from Grand Forks, North Dakota after retiring from the US Air Force. He had served for 28 years in the Air Force during the WWII & Korean Wars. He also retired from the US Postal Service as a Carrier/Clerk. John was Catholic. In his early 60's, John trained for and ran 2 marathons and several 5k's after heart bypass surgery, all of which he and his family were very proud. He is survived by his 5 sons, John Maruniak, Jr., Leesburg, FL, Joel A. (Carole) Maruniak, Ph.D., Columbia, MO, James E. (Ale) Maruniak, Ph.D., Gainesville, FL, Daniel D. (Donna) Maruniak, M.D., Jacksonville, FL, Nicholas A. Maruniak, M.D., Leesburg, FL; daughter, Carole (Henderson)Maruniak, Eustis, FL; brother, Donald Maruniak, Dunbar, PA; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel, Eustis on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
