John Edward Carroll Sr.

John Edward Carroll of Mount Dora died on Monday, March 13, 2023. Born in Bronx, New York, John first became a Patrolman in Middletown, Connecticut in 1970 then moved to Florida in 1974. He started as a patrol deputy for PBSO, retiring as a captain in 2010. He was the first Deputy of the Year in 1983 and received over 15 Service awards and many commendations during his career of 40 years. He then taught Public Administration at Barry university for 10 years. John moved to Mt. Dora in 2021 from Wellington, FL. He is survived by his wife, Betsy Parkhurst Carroll, three sons: Sean Patrick Carroll and wife Brenda of Groveport, OH, Chris Michael Carroll of Coventry, CT, John Edward Carroll, Jr. Gainesville, FL; two daughters: Bonnie Rene Childers, Modesto, CA, Julie Michelle Cochrane, Asheville, NC; two step-sons: Brian George Shendell, Orlando, FL, Arthur Frank Shendell of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; two sisters Theresa Berardi, Poughkeepsie, NY, Noreen Carroll, Hahira, GA; sister-in-law, Joyce Carroll, Sayville, NY; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Cross, Mt. Dora on Thursday, March 23,2023, at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. The family will receive friends at the Cross from 1:00 to 2:00PM. There will be a Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM at 8576 Lakes of Mt. Dora Blvd. Mt.
