Joel Noel Schmidt Jr.

Joel Noel Schmidt, Jr., 43, of Eustis, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015. Born in
Philadelphia, PA he was raised in Bucks County, PA where he was a graduate of
Council Rock High School in 1989. Following high school Joel attended and
graduated from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, where at the young age
of 19 he began his 24 year career in nursing. Joel worked in various hospital
settings, excelling in all, while maintaining a caring and nurturing nature. He
took a sabbatical from nursing to add to his expertise in a teaching position at
the Bucks County Technical School. He taught in the LPN program and in a
chance encounter, met his future wife, Holly Ann, as a student. Ironically, Joel
left for Ocoee, FL in 1997 but returned to Pennsylvania for his LPN class’s
graduation. That chance encounter led to a marriage that spanned 17 years. In
2005, Joel and Holly moved from Ocoee to Eustis and began a family.

Joel had a passion for nursing but also loved the outdoors. Joel and his brother
Chris began riding ATV’s in their teens and Joel instilled that love in his daughter
Olivia and his son Garrett. Joel loved to attend estate sales with his family and
was always looking for that “great deal”, coupon included. Joel also loved to
spend time at the beach with his family while enjoying sunsets. He was a caring
man who loved his family.

Joel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eustis. He is survived by his wife,
Holly A. Schmidt, Eustis, FL; son, Garrett Thomas John Schmidt, Eustis, FL;
daughter, Olivia Carmella Schmidt, Eustis, FL; father, Joel Noel Schmidt, St.
Augustine, FL; mother, Kathleen McCabe, Oviedo, FL; brother, Christopher J.
(Kathleen) Schmidt, Oviedo, FL; nephew, Christian Schmidt, Oviedo, FL; nephew,
Matthew Schmidt, Oviedo, FL. A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran
Church of Eustis on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations may
be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis,
TN 38105. Or, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in trust to Olivia and
Garrett Schmidt at PNC Bank, 18055 US 441 Mt. Dora, FL, 32757. Arrangements
