Jesse L. Icenogle

Jesse L. Icenogle, 98, of Eustis, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024. Born in Coles County, Illinois, he graduated from Mattoon high school. In 1950, he married Norma Jean Larrew. His family moved to Casey, Il in 1958 after purchasing an insurance agency, which they later expanded into real estate. In 1970 he opened the Discount Building Center in Casey, which they operated until their retirement in 1994. In Casey, he built many affordable new family homes and started new neighborhoods in the city. Jesse was an active member of the Casey Lion’s Club, and the First Baptist Church of Casey, where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon for many years. As an avid boater, he and his family enjoyed many days boating and water skiing on local lakes. Jesse loved the Lord and would frequently share the message of salvation and tell others of how the Lord had led and helped him throughout his life. He and his wife relocated to Lake Mattoon in 1995, and became snowbirds, wintering in Lake County. In 2018 they moved to Tavares, where he was active in his community and attended the First Baptist Church, Mount Dora.

Jesse is survived by 2 daughters, Marjorie (Craig Cortright) Icenogle, Eustis, FL, Faye (Thomas) Kelley, Naples, FL; sister, Adele Cunningham, Bartlesville, OK; 4 grandchildren, Talia (Keith) Putnam, Brian Kelley, Kristin (Tony) Cleland and Kenny (Lori) Cortright; 8 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 9:30 AM. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma, daughter, Diana Burnell, twin brother James, and nine brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Casey, IL or to the Norma and Jesse Icenogle Endowment Scholarship in Professional Sales at the University of South Alabama.
