James Leroy Owens left this earthly world and his spirit soared on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. James was born in Lyons, New York in 1965 to James Milton Owens and Elizabeth Mae Hayden. James was wicked smart and had a quiet strength that will be missed by all that crossed his path. He grew up in Deland, Sorrento, and Trenton, Florida. James worked in a variety of industrial and agricultural occupations from Blandford Groves, West Orange Door, On Call Fleet and Locklando Door and Millwork.
James was the life of the party, back in the day. His parties on Disston Avenue in Tavares were
legendary. He would be up for anything especially four-wheeling, shrimping and anything else you can do in the woods. James was a good friend and when he loved, he gave his all. His father instilled in him a love for the earth and for all animals. He had no children but raised his stepson, Wesley Pratt as his own.
James is preceded in death by his father, James Milton Owens and Andrea Owens Dessert, youngest sister. James Leroy Owens is survived by Marie Aliberti, Eustis; sister, Tracylee Groat of Tacoma, Washington; and Alexis Aliberti, of Nashville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his Aunt Helen Hatcher, Aunt Nancy Brewer and Uncle Frank Owens, nieces, nephew, cousins, and the Pratt Grandchildren. James left behind a handful of loyal friends that he loved and considered family, too.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Canal House, 205 Temple Circle, Eustis, FL 32726.
