James Wayne Johnson, Jr. passed unexpectedly January 25, 2024. James was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 22, 1985 to Carol Ann Johnson (Voss) and James Wayne Johnson. He is preceded in death by his mother and by his guardian Grandparents Douglas L. and Mavis B. Voss, and his maternal grandmother Natalee Voss and paternal grandparents Gene and Joyce Johnson.
James was raised on the Northside of Jacksonville, graduating from First Coast High School and then attending Bethune Cookman College on a music scholarship, being an accomplished trumpet player. His love of music was an integral part of his life. James later graduated from Tulsa Welding Academy. In 2015, James relocated to Sanford, Florida and was in the hospitality industry, mentored by a loyal friend and colleague, Mark Peycke. His welding skills and his association with Fresh Start Ministries eventually led James to craftsman’s trade at Mansion Windows and Doors, where he thrived until his untimely passing.
James is survived by his father, Jamie Johnson (Lisa), his brother Skylar Johnson (Blake), sister Amber Carver (Derek), and many aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins that hold him dear to their hearts. He holds a special place in the hearts of his aunts Betty Voss (Sveta) and Paige Savitz (Chris) who encouraged him since childhood.
The family will receive guests at 11:00 AM with services to follow at 11:30 AM on February 20, 2024 at Highlands United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, followed by a private inurnment at Evergreen Cemetery.
