Dr. James A. “Jim” Glisson, 82, of Tavares, passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021. Born in Jackson County, FL, he was raised in southern Georgia. He with his wife, Flora, moved to Eustis, FL in 1963 after his graduation from the Palmer College of Chiropractic and service in the Georgia Army National Guard. Soon after arriving in Lake County, FL, Dr. Glisson opened the Glisson Chiropractic Clinic. He soon began making his presence known in the community joining many service organizations and clubs, one of which was serving as a Scoutmaster for the local Boy Scouts. In 1968, he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives and in 1972 elected to the Florida Senate. While serving as a legislator, Senator Glisson, spearheaded the passage and establishing a State Holiday honoring the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. In 1978, he ran as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor but was unsuccessful. After his political career, he returned to HealthCare, founding Lake Health Care Center, Inc., a Multi-Specialty Clinic with Family Medicine, Podiatry and Chiropractic Departments. He served as Chairman of the Florida State Board of Chiropractic Medicine. Dr. Glisson was recognized by the Florida Chiropractic Association for his contributions and advancement of Chiropractic Profession. He was recognized with a Community Service Award, inducted into the Lake County Business Hall of Fame. In retirement, Dr. Glisson loved giving back to his community. He was well known for his philanthropy, friendliness, and compassion, helping others to succeed. He loved his home in Pine Meadows. He looked forward to Sunday mornings attending Church where he was a member at Bay Street Baptist Church, Eustis. He enjoyed working with his son, Dr. Randy Glisson, but his biggest love was his wife of 62 years, Flora. He is survived by his wife, Flora M. Glisson, Tavares, FL; son, Randy (Denise) Glisson, Eustis, FL; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Glisson, Laura Park, Crystal Patino; 3 great-grandchildren, Lucas Park, Eli Patino, Madelyn Park. Services will be held at Bay Street Baptist Church, Eustis on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis.
