Hugh Franklin "Sonny" Johnson, 89, of Eustis, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023. Born in Asheville, North Carolina to the late Curley Washington & Savannah Johnson, Sr., he moved to Eustis in October 2022 from Asheville. He was a owned and operated Johnson’s Janitorial Service in Asheville. Sonny was a member of Better in the Spirit Ministries of Asheville. He served his country in the US Army. Sonny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty R. Johnson, Eustis, FL; son, Willie Hawkins, Eustis, FL; 3 daughters, Tammy Bennett, Murphy, NC, Denise Stevenson, Asheville, NC, Bonita Gilchrist, Eustis, FL; brother, Elder David V. Johnson, Sr., Asheville, NC; sister, Shirley Gragg, Asheville, NC; 10 grandchildren, Ricardo Stevenson, Keith Stevenson, Jeremy Hawkins, Anjel Anjelica Bennett, Jamal Gilchrist, Nicolas Gilchrist, Logan Hawkins, Taylor Wiley, Juanita Bennett-Castillo, Tyrone Bennett; 5 great-grandchildren, Ricardo Stevenson, Jr., Raymond Stevenson, Lela Joy Bennett, Lola Marie Bennett, Zion Gilchrist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curley Washington & Savannah Johnson, Sr.; son, Tyrone Bennett; 3 brothers, Isaiah B. Johnson, Superintendent Kerlee Washington Johnson, Jr., Evangelist Curtis Billy Eugene Johnson, Jr.; 4 sisters, Mother Janie E. Johnson, Evangelist Missionary, Nina J. Sullivan, Evangelist Missionary Virginia Wells, Mother Betty J. Wilson; grandson, Jamal Gilchrist. All services will be held in Asheville, North Carolina.
