Hubert “Hugh” Lee Parrish, 84 of Tavares, FL passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Born in Louisville, KY and raised in Mt. Washington, KY, Mr. Parrish attended the University of Louisville on scholarships for basketball and baseball. He was a leader in the YMCA organization teaching “Tiny Tots” how to swim and creating new programs for young and old athletes in Cincinnati, OH and in Florida. Hugh moved to Central Florida in 1969 to continue his adventures in volleyball, basketball, baseball and teaching! He taught 30+ years and coached at Umatilla High School, Lake Brantley High and Branford High, just to name a few. He was instrumental in forming a men’s volleyball team that he coached to win the National Title in Junior Olympics Volleyball. Hugh was a certified Rosarian and a leader in his local Rose Society. He also enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading to continue his journey as a life-long learner. Hubert is predeceased by his daughter, Hillard Caroline Hoke, Grandson, Derek Lee Hoke and his two sisters, Bonnie and Judy. He is survived by his wife, Karen Sue Parrish of Tavares, FL; daughter, Katharine Lucille Dryden (Wayne Dryden) of Fleming Island, FL; stepson Kenneth Woods (Sheila Woods) of Tavares, FL; stepdaughter Shannon Davis (John Davis) of Eustis, FL; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Harden/Pauli Funeral Home, Eustis on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Tavares, Cemetery, Tavares, FL.
