Helen Ann Hanson

Helen Ann Hanson (née Christenson), 90, of Mount Dora, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017. Helen was born in Creston, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Olsburg, Kansas, and in the towns of Holdredge and Axtell in Nebraska, where she graduated from high school as Valedictorian. She attended Bethany College in Lendsborg, Kansas and graduated as a Registered Nurse at Trinity Lutheran in Kansas City in 1948. She transferred to the University of Nebraska thereafter, where she met her husband, James Warren Hanson. They were married in 1949. She and her husband lived in Boston, MA, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Port Washington, NY and Buenos Aires, Argentina. They moved to Summit, NJ in 1970, where Helen became President of the Overlook Hospital Auxiliary, and served on the Hospital Board. Throughout, Helen was a devoted wife and loving mother who supported all aspects of her family’s lives. They moved to Mount Dora in 1991, where Helen was an active member of the community, particularly with the Garden Club and Community Concerts. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eustis. Helen was predeceased by her husband in 2010. She is survived by her two sons, David Warren Hanson of Vero Beach, FL and Paul Arthur Hanson of Vero Beach, FL; two daughters, Kristen Hanson Callahan of Princeton, NJ and Kathryn Hanson Carroll of Miami, FL; sister, Martha I. Klann of Tavares, FL; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Eustis, FL on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation of Tavares, FL or to the charity of your choice.
