Harry Matthews, 90, of Eustis, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017. Born in Piscataway Town, New Jersey to the late Charles & Effie Matthews, Upon graduating from Middlesex County Vocational School in New Brunswick, NJ, he enlisted in the US Navy Seabees, serving in the Philippines during WWII. He helped to organize the American Legion Father & Sons Post 41 in Edison, NJ of which he was a charter member. in 1950, Harry married Mary Delnegro and together they moved to Eustis, FL. Upon arriving in Florida, he opened Harry's Hardware and Supply in Mount Dora which he owned & operated until his retirement in 1983. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 41 of Eustis and life member of the Eustis Elks Lodge #1578. Harry was also a charter member and helped to organize the Eustis Little League. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Matthews; 2 sons, Douglas (Linda), Michael (Kathy); 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Robert, Charles, Richard & Jimmy; 6 sisters, Betty, Effie, Marion, Dorothy, Emma & Jean. Services will be held at Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel, Eustis on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM with his nephew, Billy Matthews officiating.
