Garrett “Snake” Shaw, 80, of Eustis, Florida, left the ground to forever fly in Blue Skies on Thursday, May 3, 2018 as a result of Lewy Body Dementia. Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, he moved to Eustis in the mid-1980's after swearing off his last snow storm in Sioux Falls, SD. Prior to retiring, Garrett was an LPN at LifeStream Behavioral Center in Leesburg, FL. Garrett was extremely passionate about two things: skydiving and his lifelong love, Jade, who he first met as a skydiving student in1965. He was a skydiver and skydiving instructor for over 50 years, amassing nearly 5,000 jumps in his lifetime. Garrett also enjoyed competing in chili cook-offs, even winning a few; and collecting pottery and Native American Indian art and jewelry, especially turquoise rings. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gertrude Shaw; his brother-in-law, Ray Syverson; and his mother-in-law, Thelma Welch. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jade Piearson of Eustis, FL; daughter, Desiree (Kurt) Bergquist of Maplewood, MN; twin sister, Gayle Syverson of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Craig (Carolyn Prentiss) Shaw of Ashland, OR; sister-in-law Linda Warwick of Sioux Falls, SD; Peggy Sampson of Orlando, FL two grandsons, Camden and Grant Bergquist of Maplewood, MN; two nephews, Steven Syverson and David (Jennifer) Syverson of Sioux Falls, SD; five nieces, Mary Sage (David) Sennewald of Saint Paul, MN; Sara (David Ultan) Prentiss-Shaw of Basil, Switzerland; Jade (Bob) Barto of Sioux Falls, SD, Jennifer Fischer of Beresford, SD, and Reagan Sampson, Orlando, FL; and numerous extended family, skydiving family, and friends. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel, Eustis, on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 4:00 till 7:00 PM.
