Dr. Eugene Wilburn Glenn, 86 entered his heavenly mansion, June 27. Born Nov 16, 1929 in Tampa, FL he lived a colorful childhood, about which he had many stories he loved to share. He attended Hillsborough High School where he excelled at football and became President of his senior class. He learned the value of a strong work ethic while working for his mentor, Gene Pride, at the Pride wooden cigar tip manufacturing plant. He attended the University of Florida and then Emory University, where he met and married Carlene Stovall in 1951. Later that year he reported to join the Air Force where he became a fighter pilot and a father to his first two children, Susan and Michael. After his military service, Gene served a short period as a pilot for Eastern Airlines until his acceptance to Emory University Dental School. Gene moved his family to Tavares in 1962 where he became the first dentist in the town and affectionately became known as “Doc” Glenn. It was there that the family grew with the birth of his third child Todd and he began sharing in earnest his gifts of service and giving; he was always looking for ways in which he could help others. Life became busy as a member of the Tavares High School Quarterback Club, President of the Parent Teachers Association, member of the Tavares Bank Board of Directors and Mayor of the City of Tavares 1973 to 1995. Doc knew how to enjoy life! He took the family on month-long camping vacations during the summers, was an avid racquetball player, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and leading backpacking trips for the Sierra Club. In later years Doc moved to Colorado where he remarried Virginia (Ginny) O’Reilly and picked up additional pursuits of horseback riding, downhill snow skiing and bike riding. One of Doc’s favorite sayings was, “I ain’t messin around”… and he didn’t. Doc was preceded in death by Carlene Glenn, Ginny Glenn and his son Michael Glenn. He is survived by his children Dr. Susan Glenn Caddell (Danny) and Todd Glenn (Michelle); and by his grandchildren Jared Glenn, Erin Caddell, Spencer Caddell, Kelsey Glenn Schmitt (Trey), Austin Glenn and Kalyn Glenn. A home-going celebration will be held at the Harden/Pauli Funeral Chapel on Friday July 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Tavares Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM. Online guestbook available at
