Emilyann Van Der Sluys of Eustis, Florida and former longtime resident of Alliance passed away on April 20, 2011. She was born in Champaign, Illinois on December 11, 1939. Before she retired to Florida in 2001 she was, for 29 years, the tennis coach for a number of local high schools, including Marlington, and St. Thomas Aquinas. She thought that everyone should try the game of tennis. She taught tennis for over 30 years for the Alliance recreation department during the summer in Silver Park. In many cases she taught tennis to more than one generation of Alliance children. In addition she would hold a youth tennis tournament in Silver Park every summer with more than one hundred participants. During the winter she did home tutoring of students from Louisville, Alliance and Manerve who could not attend school. In Florida she enjoyed the warm weather, her flowers, duplicate bridge and hosting parties. She is survived by her husband Alan of 46 years, her two sons Richard of Woodinville, Washington and Derrick of Fort Collins, Colorado and four grandsons. Visitation will be held on Saturday April 23, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Harden/Pauli Funeral Home, Eustis with services following.
