Elzie Givens of Eustis, FL passed on April 13th, 2015 at the age of 92.
He was born September 30, 1922 in Henry County, Headland, Alabama, the 10th child born to William Jackson and Minnie Elizabeth Bush Givens.
Mr. Givens was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Lucille Virginia Newman in 2014, parents, seven brothers, William, Thomas, Vernice, Dosey, Gaddis, Acrite and Oit and one sister Quida Herring.
Elzie served in the Conservation Corp 1939-40. He married Lucille Virginia Newman on August 26, 1942 in Dothan, AL and moved to Orlando, FL returning to Dothan in 1943, then to Panama City where he worked with the Bayline Railroad Co. He moved to Eustis in 1946 where he was employed with Lee Polk Gulf Oil Corp for 21 years; E.L. Williams Oil Co for 21 years; Chris Cox Lake Oil for 10 years; Delco Corp for 2 years where he was named Employee of the Year at age 80. He retired in 2004 at the age of 82.
He loved Lake County and was an avid fisherman. Past times also included cooking, vegetable gardening, western movies, playing keyboard and singing hymns, country and bluegrass music, playing checkers and eating catfish.
He always made himself available to his family, friends and neighbors. He was a gentle and kind man to all who knew him. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter Marie (Victor) McGregor of Tavares, FL; son Larry Elzie (Debbie Brock) Givens of Eustis, FL; Grandson Eric H. McGregor of Austin, TX; Sister Nell Smith (age 100) of Grady, AL, and many nieces and nephews.
