Elizabeth J. "Betty" Richter, 93, of Mount Dora, passed away into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Born in Hanlontown, Iowa, and raised in Litchfield, Minnesota, she moved to Mount Dora, Florida in 2011, Alongside her husband, Erwin, she lived six decades in Lewiston, Minnesota, where she raised her six children and worked in the family businesses of farming, real-estate and insurance. She graduated from Iowa State University and had a life-long appetite for learning. She was an excellent writer and was known to devour entire books in a single day! Betty was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lewistown, Minnesota, where she was very active with Bible Study, the Ladies Aid (LWML), and the Silo Serenader’s Kitchen band. She was also active in the community participating in various civic groups including the Winona County Home and Community Options. After moving to Florida, she immersed herself in the Waterman Village life delighting in the social and worship opportunities and making many friends. Betty’s hobbies included Bible study, writing, reading, Scrabble, exercise, and keeping track of her growing family. Two of her granddaughters wrote, “She had an easy smile that she generously shared with others” and “She covered her family through purposeful daily prayer and devotion to the Lord.” She is survived by her 2 sons: John P. (Denise) Richter, Charlotte, NC, James "Jim" (Sara) Richter, Yorkville, IL; 3 daughters: Elizabeth "Liz" Hobert, Mount Dora, FL, Margaret "Margi" (Phil) McLain, Salem, SC, Ruth (Ed) Doepel, Yorkville, IL; 4 sisters: Margaret Steinkraus, Bloomington, IL, Janice Morris, Northfield, MN, Roberta Riebe, Windom, MN, Carol Marshall, Northfield, MN; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin P. Richter, her son, William "Bill" Richter and son-in-law, Rev. Bruce Hobert. A memorial service will be held at Garden of Life Chapel at Waterman Village, Mount Dora on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Another memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Silo) in Lewiston, MN on April 16th at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
