Elaine L’Hommedieu, 81, most recently of 500 Waterman Ave, Mount Dora, Florida, passed peacefully in her sleep on the morning of June 30th, 2022. Elaine will be returned to New York State for interment at a future date. Elaine was born on March 4th, 1941, at Wilson Memorial Hospital and grew up in Johnson City, New York. She was the fourth of sixth children born to the late Lawrence and Vera (Dyer) Travis. Her siblings: Jeanette Moser, Great Bend, PA and Lowell Travis, Susquehanna, PA preceded her in death. Her sister Shirley (John) Peck, Leesburg, FL and brothers Gerald (Linda) Travis, Leesburg, FL and Rodney Travis, San Jose, CA survive. She is survived by her husband Richard F. L’Hommedieu, her son Seth Bullock, Greene, NY, and four stepchildren: Desiree Morgan, Carlsbad, NM; Kathryn Fagerstrom, Juneau, AK; Stuart L’Hommedieu, Oxford, NY; and Sarah Dutton, Juneau, AK; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Following her graduation from Johnson City High School in 1959 she entered the secretarial work force. Her first job was as a stenographer in an attorney’s office. Elaine married Ronald Bullock and during the marriage her son, Seth was born. Several years later Elaine and Ron were divorced. Following the divorce, Elaine worked in several professional offices in Chenango County, NY. Later she was hired by Chenango County Government where she retired from the County’s Area for the Aging Office. While working for the county, she met and fell in love with Richard F. L’Hommedieu. They married and were together for over 39 years until Elaine’s passing. Together they raised their children and played a large part in their grand and great grand children’s lives. During this same time, they went on many adventurous trips to the South Atlantic, train rides across the country, countless trips up and down the East Coast (many through country roads instead of highways and byways), even a few trips to Colorado, California and Alaska to visit friends and family. Her sister Shirley (Husband John) were traveling companions on many of these adventures. She and Richard retired on the same day in 1998 and began a new phase of their lives together. Elaine and Richard then spent several summers in New York and winters in Florida before they finally settled as permanent residents in the Scottish Highlands community, Leesburg, FL. Her sister Shirley and husband John also resided in the Scottish Highlands community. Several nieces and nephews followed suit. Family was extremely important to Elaine. She led an active life. Loved cats, music, singing, dancing, doing cross word puzzles, reading, cooking, refinishing furniture, and most importantly - visiting with family … she loved her family and relatives. Her warm and cheerful smile was enjoyed by all. She always looked for the best in people. She loved children and was always looking forward to the next visit of anyone, especially if they brought a child along. In December 2021 Elaine, due to her failing health, and Richard relocated to an assisted living residence where they lived until she passed. Online Guestbook available at
