Edwin “Brent” Lewis, 84, Eustis, Florida passed away July 14, 2022 at Cornerstone Hospice, The Villages, Florida after a long illness. Brent was born August 25, 1937 in Clifton Forge, VA. Brent and his brother Gary were raised in Toledo, Ohio. Brent graduated from Libbey High school and the University of Toledo. Brent worked for several companies in the Toledo area including Toledo Trust Bank, Dixie Cup and Maccabees Mutual Insurance. Brent a hardworking, entrepreneur chose to go into business for himself where he founded Lewis Urethane Foam and Roofing in the early 1970’s. Brent continued to successfully grow the business working in the Ohio, Michigan area and completed several large roofing projects in Texas, Louisiana and Florida. Brent was a natural athlete who loved golf and participated in many sports. Brent was a Golden Gloves, AAU boxer and a Golden Gloves and Olympic Trial referee. An outstanding golfer, Brent won several golf tournaments in the Toledo area, including the SP Jermain in 1981, the Toledo District Golf Championship and both the Heatherdowns and Brandywine County Club Championships. Brent also served as the Toledo District Golf Association President in 1974. After moving to Florida in the early 90’s, Brent continued to compete and win tournaments in the Eustis, Florida area. Brent split his time between properties in Toledo, Ohio, Florida and his island on Stoney Lake, Ontario. Brent had spent summers in Stoney Lake, Canada since he was a boy, and looked forward to returning to the lake every year. Brent shared his love for the island with his family, he taught his children and grandchildren how to drive boats, fish and water-ski. Laurie, Brent’s wife and Brent enjoyed the company of their good friends who also lived and vacationed on the lake. Wonderful memories were made at the island, Brent “Papa” was the first to jump off the roof of the boathouse every year, followed by his children their spouses and grandchildren. Brent was a good neighbor; he and Laurie were always willing to offer help wherever they could. Brent was a loving husband to Laurie, a devoted Dad and a proud Papa, fun loving, well read, enjoyed traveling; a good friend, he loved and owned several dogs. Brent left a lasting impression on his family and friends and will be missed by many; he truly was one of a kind. MI., Sarah (Brian) Peterson, Waterville, OH., Hannah (Todd) Erskine, North Bend, WA., Emily (James) McAninly, North Bend, WA., Ben Lewis, North Bend, WA., Paighton (Jerrad) Livers, Loretto, KY., Garrett Lewis, Toledo, OH., Jorja Lewis Liberty Twnsp., Oh., and 15 great- grandchildren. Brother; Gary (Lydia) Lewis, Walland, TN., ex-wife- Janet DeJeu, Toledo, Oh., and his dog, Finnley. Brent was pre-deceased by his parents, Ed and Nancy Lewis, and his in-laws, Willis and Jan Mathis.
