Doerr Wendell Davis, 83, of Franklin, North Carolina, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 18, 1933 to his parents, the late Christian Doerr Davis and Alberta Luella Scramlin Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Josephine Elizabeth Campbell Davis in 2015 and his son Douglas Jerry Yount, 2014.
In 1962 Wendell and Jo moved to Eustis, Florida to raise their family. Over the next 33 years they owned and operated Triangle Moving and Storage and Raintree Books. Wendell was an avid book collector and spent most of his life involved with the research, collection, restoration, and sale of antiquarian books. His library expanded centuries. He served on the Florida Household Goods Carriers Bureau Rate Committee. He was an active member of the Eustis Chamber of Commerce, Eustis Code Enforcement, Eustis Memorial Library, Eustis Kiwanis and Eustis Jaycees. In 1981 both Wendell and Jo became licensed Auctioneers and owned and operated Jefferson Davis Auction Galleries. Wendell retired in 1993 and moved to Franklin, North Carolina. During his retirement, he continued his love of antiquarian books, enjoyed spending time with his loving wife and spent many years actively involved with his children and grandchildren. He was an active member in the Asbury United Methodist Church. He touched the lives of all who knew him and will forever be in the hearts of many. Wendell is survived by one son James Wendell Davis of Georgia, his daughters Debra Allee Jones of Indiana, Anita Jo Hardin (Mike), and Jo Elizabeth Henson of Eustis ; brothers Michael Grey (Joan), Christian Davis (Sue) and Edward Davis ( Sue); seven grandchildren, Alicia Neusbaum, Spanaway, Washington, Aaron Davis, Salem, Oregon, Jonathan Jones, Jr., Washington, Christopher Hardin and Justin Branton (Kelli) of Eustis, Florida, Taylor Elizabeth Yucha (Jeff) of Henderson, Nevada, and Montana Jo Henson of Eustis, Florida; six great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Jacob Yucha, Peyton Branton, Caleb, Rowen, and Madilyn Neusbaum. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, January 6, at Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Dale Fonville will officiate.
