David William Norris, 63, of Grand Island, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016. Born in Amherst, Ohio, he moved to Central Florida in 1996 from Ohio. David was an attorney practicing in Tavares. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1981 as well as the Florida Bar in 2005. He is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and has been building on his legal experience since 1972. David has worked as a criminal investigator in Cleveland Ohio, The Portage County Public Defender’s office, The Ravenna Ohio city council for three terms, was elected to the Ohio State Attorney’s Office for two terms. He developed a state wide training program for the Florida Public Defender’s Association (Defender College), training director for the Florida 5th Circuit Public Defender. David coached and umpired for many years for Tavares Babe Ruth & coached basketball for Liberty Christian Academy. David is survived by his wife, Penni Spears Norris, Grand Island, FL; mother, Alma Norris, Spring Hill, FL; brother, Kevin Norris (Linda), Brooksville, FL; 5 children, Ashley Daniels, Grand Island, FL, Christopher Daniels, Tavares, FL, Lindsey (Tyler) Fenlon, Tavares, FL, Patrick Norris, Grand Island, FL, Dalton Norris, Grand Island, FL; 3 grandchildren, Aubrey Daniels, Charlie Fenlon, Ava Robinson and many nieces & nephews. He is also survived by Kimberly Vilchez, Laguna Beach, CA. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Umatilla, on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 6:00 PM with a reception for family & friends to follow.
