David Lee Mitchell

David Lee Mitchell, 87, of Altoona, Florida, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024. He was born and lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, until moving to Mount Dora, Florida in January 2009. David & Cheryl enjoyed living at the Lakes of Mount Dora community from 2009 to 2021. They volunteered at the Lake Cares Food Pantry in Mount Dora on Wednesdays until the COVID shut down in the spring of 2020. With declining health, they sold their home and moved to Lakeview Terrace, Altoona, Florida in November 2021. David was a US Air Force veteran of 9 years and had one overseas assignment in England in the mid 1950s. He was an Electronics Technician working as a civilian at Naval Avionics Center, Indianapolis and retiring after 33 years. David was a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church of Eustis, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cheryl L. Mitchell of Altoona, FL, sons, Stephen (Roberta) Mitchell, Morgantown, IN, Charles E. (Christine) Mitchell of Fishers, IN; step-son, John D. (Amanda) Pearce of Deland, FL; daughters, Diane K. DeVore of Indianapolis, IN, Charity J. (Perry Dunzik) Mitchell of Mount Dora, FL; sister, Sally Schank of McCordsville, IN; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his son, John Philip Mitchell and infant son, David Lee Mitchell, Jr. He will be laid to rest at the Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church (PCA), 19535 Eustis Airport Road, Eustis, Florida 32736.
