Darrel Charles Gorman, 90, of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away Friday, February 23, 2024. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he moved to Mount Dora in 1990 from Sterling, IL. Prior to Darrel's retirement he worked in the steel industry as an ingot recorder. Darrel enjoyed all types of car racing. He was the head mechanic for the Championship car, White Lightning, at the World Series of Drag Racing in 1960. He also used to spend time with his sons racing snowmobiles and motorcycles. Darrel enjoyed singing in the Sterling/Rock Falls Barbershop quartet. In later years he enjoyed landscaping his widowed neighbors' yards for free and then created a business out of his passion of horticulture. Darrel was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Rose Gorman and Son, Christopher Gorman. He is survived by his Son, Darrel C. Gorman (Dawn) of Lyndon, IL; Daughter, Colette (Paul) Thompson of Mount Dora, FL, his Grandchildren, Michelle Link; Meagan Dirks; Erica Boesen; Sarah Boesen; C.J. Gorman; and Chase Gorman, 19 Great Grandchildren, and numerous extended family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to LakeHaven Church, Eustis, Florida.
