Clyde Ernest Mosteller, 87, of Mount Dora, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2018. Born in 1931 in Mount Dora, Clyde spent his youth working in the Mosteller and Simpson family citrus groves, and at his father’s Gulf service station in Mount Dora. He was a member of Mount Dora’s BSA Troop 19, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. A 1949 graduate of Mount Dora High School, he received his Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from the University of Florida in 1953, and was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army before beginning a long career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He owned and operated Mosteller Groves throughout his adult life. Clyde married Helen Irene Formby on November 18, 1956 at the First Baptist Church of Eustis. Clyde and Helen Mosteller were joyfully married 61 years, until Helen’s passing in October, 2017. Clyde was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora throughout his life, and prior to his passing was the longest tenured member of the congregation. He served the church in many lay positions, including a number of years as Financial Secretary. He was a life member of the Mount Dora Lions Club, District Governor of Florida Lions District 35-O in 1975-76, and Scoutmaster of Troop 19 for several years in the 1970s. He was a member of Eustis Elks Lodge #1578. Clyde, a UF alum, was a die-hard Gator fan, and a life member of the University of Florida Alumni Association, as well as a member of the Lake County Gator Boosters Club. Clyde is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ernie and Sarah Mosteller of Mount Dora; grandchildren, Jackson Mosteller and Georgia Mosteller; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Mount Dora, on Saturday, December 29, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora. The family will receive friends at the Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel, Eustis, on Friday, December 28, from 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM.
