Chester Eugene Burris, Jr.

Orlando, Florida

Chester “Chet” Eugene Burris, Jr. 82 years old of Orlando died Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Born in Jacksonville, Florida he moved to Orlando at the age of 3 Years old. Chet graduated from Edgewater High School where he was a member of the Sportsman’s Club. He briefly attended business school and worked for his father at Dixie Textile and Supply. He has been the owner of Dixie Textile for 50 years. Chet was a lifetime member of Park Lake Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder and as Chairman of the Childcare Committee. He served his country in the Army Reserve. As a boy, Chet and his brother Ray played the accordion. His mother said he was a natural and should have been on the Lawrence Welk Show. The boys were often the entertainment at Florence’s Bridge Club. Chet enjoyed woodworking, model airplanes, skiing, boating, fishing and his years on the intercoastal waterway. He loved his family and chocolate (in that order). He also enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife Becky from Alaska to China and everywhere in between. Chet is survived by his wife of 56 years Rebecca “Becky” Anna Preisser Burris, his children Allyson (Tony) Carter, Tina (John) Faber, Bonnie (Alex) Pena and Todd (Meredith) Burris. Chet was a proud grandfather to Alexander Pena, Janelle Hanna, AJ Carter, Chastidie Sanchez, Chad Smith, Auburn Williams and Dustin Williams and loving great grandfather to 11 great grandchildren. Chet is preceded in death by his parents Chester Eugene Burris, Sr. and Florence Tyron Burris and his brothers Kenneth and Douglas Burris. He is survived by his brother Ray (Sandy) Burris, his sister-in-law Irene Owens and brother-in-law Gary Preisser and numerous extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held August 3, 2024 at 2 pm at Park Lake Presbyterian Church, 309 East Colonial Drive, Orlando FL 32801. A reception to follow for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to Park Lake Presbyterian church or Vitas Health Care hospice.
