Charles Hirst, 90, of Mount Dora, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, he moved to Mount Dora in 1995 from Tallahassee, Florida. He began his career as a professional boxer being rated by Ring Magazine as 1 of the top 10 hardest hitting punchers, pound for pound. He had a 38-11 record with 30 KO's. After retiring from boxing, he became a sales rep. for bridal originals and was the top bridal and formal man in the country for many years. He maintained permanent showrooms in both Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC. Chuck was a former deacon of First Presbyterian Church, Mount Dora and was a Honorary Deputy Sheriff in Detroit, MI. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Janie L. Hirst, Mount Dora, FL; 2 brothers, Norman Hirst, Detroit, MI, Murray Hirst, Saint Petersburg, FL; sister, Miriam Steinberg, Fredericksburg, VA. Services will be held at Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel, Eustis on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
