Carlene S. Glenn

November 3, 1929 — March 31, 2016

Carlene Stovall Glenn, 86 slipped into the arms of Jesus Thursday, March 31. Born Mary Carlene Stovall on November 3, 1929, she was the only child of Carl (who she was named after) and Esther Belle. She was raised in Atlanta, Georgia where she earned her nursing degree at Emory University. She looked beautiful in that white uniform and starched cap. It was on the Emory campus that she met and married her one true love, Dr. Eugene Glenn. They settled in Tavares, Florida where she raised her three children Susan, Mike and Todd and helped her husband manage their dental practice and other properties. Carlene was very active in her church, First Baptist Tavares where she began a Sunday School class for young people with special needs. As a result, she was active in the Association for Retarded Citizens which is now Sunrise ARC. She was a member of the Tavares Women's Club and Woman of the Year in 1972. She volunteered at Carpenter's House for children. Carlene was blessed with the gift of encouragement. She must have written hundreds of notes that she sent to anyone she felt needed a special word. Her family will always treasure her prayer journals she wrote daily since 1988. She possessed a quiet spirit and shunned the limelight but she made a profound impact on the ladies she mentored, the children she taught and the family she loved. Carlene was preceded in her passing by her son Michael Eugene Glenn. She is survived by her children Dr. Susan Glenn Caddell (Danny) and Todd Mitchell Glenn (Michelle); and by her grandchildren Jared Glenn, Erin Caddell, Spencer Caddell, Kelsey Glenn Schmitt (Trey), Austin Glenn, and Kalyn Glenn. A celebration of a life well lived will be held at the Harden/Pauli Funeral Home Chapel, on Tuesday April 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Tavares Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 - 8 PM.
