Dr. Carl E. Schwenker, 87, of Yalaha, passed away Monday, November 9, 2020. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was an OB/GYN in Volusia County for many years. He practiced in Daytona Beach, FL at Halifax Medical Center, delivering and bringing into this life over 10,000 newborn babies before retiring in 1996. He also served as the Liason Officer for Halifax Medical Center Medical Staff from 2007-2008 and volunteered for Halifax Behavioral Center. Carl was the the Daytona Beach Speedway physician for many years. After his retirement, he moved to Mount Dora in 2016 before relocating to Yalaha this year. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Real Life Church in Mount Dora and former member of Christ Community in Daytona Beach. Carl & his wife, Loreen had a love for children, being foster parents for medically needy children for 5 years. They were selected as one of 165 Congressional Angels in Adoption for 2004. Carl was also a licensed pilot, he had a passion for WWII airplanes. He raced in the 24 hr. of Daytona in a TR4 No. 39. Carl is survived by his wife of 34 years, Loreen M. Schwenker, Yalaha, FL; 4 sons, Carl E. Schwenker, III, Jacksonville, FL, Michael J. (Jennifer) Schwenker, Atlanta, GA, Christopher L. Fyksen, Deland, FL, Charles A. Schwenker, Yalaha, FL; 2 daughters, Valerie F. Schwenker, New Smyrna Beach, FL, Traci M. (Maher) Chakra, Weeki Wachee, FL; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
