Beverley Spencer-Sibblies, 71, of Eustis, Florida, passed away on Saturday, September 28th. Born on February 7, 1953, in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica, to Cecil and Cladine Spencer, Beverley was the youngest of 12 children and always full of life. She began her education at Homestead All-Age School, then spent some time at Inswood Primary School, and later attended Spanish Town Secondary/High School. From an early age, Beverley’s lively and entrepreneurial spirit was evident—her cousin Blossom fondly recalls a childhood moment when Beverley, even in the middle of a scuffle, refused to waste valuable bottles, suggesting they could sell them instead. She was also famously referred to as the “village lawyer” because people knew that as long as Beverley had your back, you didn’t have to worry about a thing. Her sharp mind and quick thinking were clear even in her youth
Beverley attended primary school and Spanish Town Secondary, and while she didn’t finish high school at the time, it didn’t stop her from chasing her goals. In 1985, she immigrated to the U.S. with her two kids, determined to build a better life. Beverley got her certification as a Home Health Aide, then went back to school to become a Nursing Assistant, and eventually earned her Surgical Technologist certification from Long Island University. She loved her work and often talked about the different areas of the hospital where she worked, especially her time in surgery.
After many years of working in New York, Beverley made her way to sunny Florida, where she continued caring for patients at Advent Health Hospital for more than a decade. She retired in 2020, but not before building lasting relationships and continuing to raise her family, including meeting the love of her life, Stelton. The way they met is a fun story (ask Stelton for his version when you see him), but what’s known for sure is that Beverley was no-nonsense, and Stelton was shy. Their friendship blossomed into love over time, and though they were only married for four years, they lived a life full of joy, love, and laughter. Stelton often says Beverley was his sunshine, bringing peace and happiness to his world.
Aside from her career and marriage, Beverley had a passion for gardening. Her green thumb was legendary—if she planted it, it grew. She also loved traveling and praising God for His many blessings. Raised in the Pentecostal faith, Beverley later became a Seventh-day Adventist, and her faith remained strong throughout her life. She also served faithfully as a Deaconess at Emmanuel Christian Outreach Mission SDA, where her deep faith in God was central to her life. Beverley embodied perseverance, hard work, and love for her family, friends, and the Lord.
Beverley’s vibrant energy and no-nonsense attitude made her someone people gravitated toward. Whether she was cooking, giving advice, or simply offering a shoulder to lean on, she had a way of making everyone feel cared for. She was also known for her hilarious storytelling, always ready with a tale that would have you laughing until you cried. Her sharp advice often came wrapped in wisdom passed down from her mother, with sayings like “Duppy know who fi frighten,” “Yu cyaan sidung pahn cow bak and cuss cow kin,” and “Wanti wanti cyaan getti, an’ Getty getti noh wanti.” Beverley was strong, and while her faith guided her, she was never afraid to say she’d “put down her Bible, kick butt, and then pick it up again.”
Beverley deeply valued education and encouraged her children to pursue it above all else. Her laughter was infectious, her advice spot-on, and her love for life and others undeniable. She truly was a force to be reckoned with—strong, faithful, and fiercely loving. As Ephesians 1:6 reminds us, Beverley was greatly blessed, highly favored, and deeply loved.
Beverley leaves behind her beloved husband, Stelton, her four children Carlos (Richard), Keisha, Saquon, and Emmanuel, step-children Steve (Jammie), Tristan, and Malik, grandchildren Timothy, Curtis, and Grayson, and step-grandchildren Tristan Jr., Jaylen, and Emory Rose. She is also survived by her siblings Jasmine, Joyce (Lorenzo), Evadney, Carmen, Peter, Daniel, and Selvin, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, strength, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
