Albert Marion Conerly, 87, a true American hero, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in Eustis, FL. Marion, or “Al”, was born in Jackson, MS on March 10, 1924. He Joined the Marine Corps in January of 1940 at the Age of 15, was captured after the fall of Corregidor in May of 1942, survived the Death March of Bataan and spent 3 ½ years in prison camp. After his release in 1945, Mr. Conerly met and fell in love with Ruth Louise Delezen whom he was married to from January of 1946 until her passing in November of 2001. Mr. Conerly retired from the Marine Corps as a 1st Lieutenant in 1959 and lived in Milton, FL until 2004. Mr. Conerly is survived by his two daughters, Marion Conerly-O’Hara (Doug) and Kathryn Montgomery (Jeff); five grandchildren, Jessica Montgomery, Lucinda Montgomery, Amanda Petrie(Brian), Benjamen Adams(Lavonne) and Brandon Adams(Erin); four great-grandchildren, Maleah, Gladys, Ben, and Shelby Adams; as well as several nieces, nephews and beloved friends who helped make his life so special. A memorial service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 2PM. Online guestbook available at
