Aaron Matthews, 88, of Daytona Beach, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013. Born in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, he moved to Tavares in 1996 from Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was a retired construction worker. Aaron was a member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver and The Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church, Daytona Beach. Aaron is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ella Mae Matthews, Daytona Beach, FL; son, Irving J. (Darlene) Matthews, Daytona Beach, FL; daughter, Emily A. Matthews-Lee, Eustis, FL; 2 brothers, John (Vera) Matthews, Castro Valley, CA, Alvin (Debra) Matthews, Dallas, TX; 6 sisters, Regina (Kelly) Hamilton, Castro Valley, CA, Mildred JeanLouis, Lafayette, LA, Anna Rose Guidry, Galveston, TX, Bernadette Jolivet, Newark, CA, Bernice (Tyree) Reed, Richmond, CA, Geraldine DeCuir, Lafayette, LA; 6 grandsons, Richard, Rodrick & Rendall Lee, Marcus, Jonathan & Darren Matthews; 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace & Mary Matthews, 6 sisters, Dorothy Williams, Alberta Pickney, Leona Randall, Mary George, Florence Celestine, Hilda Celestine and brother, Horace Matthews, Jr. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, Eustis on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis. The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM.
